The Breakers needed someone to rise to the occasion.
Noah Cryns answered the challenge.
Injuries left the defending Mission Trail Athletic League champions depleted on the offensive side of the ball Friday.
Or so we thought.
Cryns may have thrown his hat into the MVP mix in the MTAL.
Asked to run the 'Wildcat', Cryns rushed for 233 yards and four touchdowns in Pacific Grove's win at King City.
He also tossed a touchdown pass and intercepted two passes on defense to stall a pair of King City drives.
What looked to be a shootout in the first half stalled in the second half as the Pacific Grove defense created two turnovers and shutout the Mustangs.
All season Pacific Grove coach Chris Morgan has stressed that his squad can not rely on one player putting this team on his back.
And he's right.
Yet, in his last two games, Cryns has rushed for 378 yards and has either thrown, rushed or caught seven touchdowns.
That's a serviceable effort.
