North County football

You had to look past the won-loss record to see the results.
Being winless doesn't look good no matter how it's sliced up.
Yet, there were growing spurts for North County over the last two weeks, enough to provide hope and encouragement.
Head coach Sean Gomes believed the team was headed in the right direction.
The reward came under unusual circumstances as the Condors beat Seaside in a rare night game on the Castroville campus.
Of course, who cares how it happened?
 It happened.
Gomes, who came back for a second tour of duty at North County, is the programs seventh coach in eight years.
Stability has clearly been missing from a program that has the second most league titles in the county behind Palma in the last 35 years.
But improvement over the last two weeks is an indication that the program is progressing.
North County produced more points against Seaside (26) then it had in its first four games (20).
Two weeks ago it was down by a point at halftime and didn't score again. Friday the Condors were up by two at the half and ran off 17 unanswered points.
North County effectively ran the ball and moved the chains. It got points on special teams and relied on its defense to shut down Seaside in the second half.
No need to talk about moral victories. This was a win.
