Carmel football

A much-maligned and young defense gained a measure of respect on Friday.
Two weeks after giving up 76 points, the Padres defense held Stevenson without a touchdown until late in the game in a 34-9 win.
Now, no one is comparing reigning CCS Open Division champion Sacred Heart Prep to Stevenson. Still, the goal is to see progression and that's what Carmel's defense is putting together.
Not only did four of the five turnovers it created lead to touchdowns, but the defense did not allow Stevenson to capitalize on the six turnovers Carmel's offense gave up.
A bigger concern right now for the Padres is the status of tailback Covossay Windham, who suffered a knee injury in the first quarter and was on crutches in the second half.
The junior, who came into the game with 736 rushing yards in four games, will have an MRI on his left knee on Monday
