So the offense was supposed to be run oriented this year.
Nothing wrong with balance.
Hey, you take what the defense gives you.
Soledad head coach Frankie Berlanga raved about quarterback Eric Martinez before the year started.
Now we know why.
The senior completed 17-of-23 passes in his first start for 181 yards and a touchdown pass in a 20-point win at Seaside.
The Aztecs were balanced offensively while the defense dominated, not allowing a point.
We'll likely learn a little more about Soledad next week when it hosts Monte Vista, a CCS Division IV finalist last year.
But when you can control play in the trenches, you're going to be in a lot of games.
There's a different mine set with this group. No chip on their shoulders. Just a blue collar approach.
