Palma football

 Wow.
Talk about an early season statement.
This wasn't some patsy Palma opened up with.
Sutter is a team that won 13 straight games last year and came within one win of playing for a state championship.
It's a program that has won 13 games two of the last three years in the Northern Section.
Sutter is a program that opponents use as a gauge to measure themselves.
There is a lot of football left.
But Palma left an imprint after a 42-14 win.
Few will remember that Palma actually trailed 7-0 in this game.
Producing 42 unanswered points will get your attention.
The Chieftains offense had flair behind the dynamic duo of quarterback Jack Richardson and junior tailback Emilio Martinez.
Together, the pair combined for nearly 500 yards and six touchdowns, with Martinez rushing for 217 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries.
Richardson is going to pick a part of lot of teams if he continues to get that type of protection from the offensive line, which also opened up huge holes for Martinez.
Three more defending section champions await Palma.
Yet, what's frightening is Palma made mistakes. Wait until it cleans those penalties up and eliminates the turnovers.

Palma will be very good this year. But don't read too much into this win. Sutter may have lost more to graduation than any other school in the state. This Sutter team was no where near as good as their past few teams. Having said that it is scary to see Palma put up so many points this early in the season. That does not bode well for Gabilan opponents.
