MPC-Redwoods football

Saturday's game
Monterey Peninsula (0-0) at Redwoods (0-0), 1 p.m.
The Lobos got off on the right foot last year with a 38-23 win over Redwoods, who was just 1-5 in the American Pacific Conference.
The return of quarterback Keon Marsh and his 2,701 passing yards is a good starting point for MPC. Yet, balance is what was preached in camp.
Sophomore tailback Jacob Robante -- a North Salinas graduate -- gave the ground game a big lift in the second half, rushing for over 700 yards and nine touchdowns.
Marsh has a new set of receivers to target, including former Palma tight end Adrian Valdez. Which means chemistry in game situations is not there yet.
Last year two different freshmen split time at quarterback for Redwoods. Its defense did produce 29 turnovers. However the offense turned it over 31 times.
Last year MPC was 4-1 at home, but winless on the road. Since sharing the conference title in 2012, MPC has produced back-to-back 4-6 seasons.
