Milpitas-Salinas football

Friday's game
Milpitas (1-2) at Salinas (2-1), 7:30 p.m.
The reigning Open Division consolation round champion Trojans fell by a point last week to Valley Christian. The week before, they put up 71 points in shutting out Newark Memorial.
The last time these two teams met was in the 2010 Central Coast Section Division I playoffs, where Salinas prevailed 22-13 at Milpitas.
The Cowboys have outscored their last two opponents 82-6, having forced nine turnovers in the first three games.
Nearly half of Matt Castaneda's 38 completions have gone to Kevin Crosby while Ryan Jensen is averaging over 20 yards a catch for Salinas.
Sophomore Tariq Bracy is a blur in the open field, having rushed for nearly 300 yards for Milpitas. Oliver Svirsky has been their short yardage back with three of his 12 carries being touchdowns.
The Cowboys ground game has relied heavily on the legs of Castaneda, who leads the team. Then again in this offense, those short passes work just like a run.
Four different players have interceptions for Salinas, including Jensen, who also ran a fake punt 43 yards for a touchdown. Kyle Martorella is the heartbeat of the defense.
This is the first of three straight home games for Salinas, who is undefeated this year when playing in the Salinas city limits.
