There's this preconceived notion that because Carmel lines up four receivers on most plays, it's a pass first offense.
Yet, over the last six years, a player for the Padres has rushed for over 1,000 yards.
You can make the argument this year that this offense will run through junior running back Covossay Windham.
Don't be mislead on how he carries 225 pounds on a 5-foot-10 frame.
A lot of that weight is in his thighs. In others words, he's a load to bring down.
Windham demonstrated his stamina in 90 plus degree heat Friday with 186 yards on 25 carries, producing two touchdowns.
While Windham can make you miss, it's his powerful legs that grind out the extra yards.
Opponents have to respect the Padres ground game.
That creates space for quarterback Jonathan Hugo, who looked sharp in completing 13-of-15 for 183 yards and two touchdowns against Scotts Valley.
Time consuming drives keep a defense rested.
