Saturday's game
Alisal (1-3) vs. Pajaro Valley (3-0) at Cabrillo College, 12:30 p.m.
The last time the Grizzlies started a season 3-0 was eight years ago -- when they set a school record for wins with six.
Celebrating its 10th season, this is not the same Pajaro program that has had seven seasons of two wins or less.
Former Gonzales and Salinas head coach Mark Ironside has resurfaced as an offensive coordinator and is making a difference, as is Casey Neligh on defense.
As good as Alisal's offense looked in a Week 3 win over Greenfield, it was missing in action in last week's loss to Soledad. It has struggled on the road, having been outscored 70-14 in two games.
The Grizzlies are grinding the clock on the ground with Jesus Fernandez having rushed for nearly 300 yards and five touchdowns. Seven of the teams eight touchdowns are rushing.
Establishing the running game will create opportunities for Alisal quarterback Raul Garnica, who has had his moments this fall. It will also provide more rest for the defense.
Both teams have wins over Greenfield.
