Just a sophomore whose passion is volleyball, Villegas qualified for the State track and field meet in the 1,600 after clocking 4:58.20 at the Central Coast Section finals.
The San Benito distance ace has a season best of 4:56.85 heading into Friday's trials in Clovis. She is ranked 18th. But her season best vaults her into the top 12.
Earlier this year Villegas did the unthinkable in winning the 1,600, 400, 800 and 3,200 at the Gabilan Division finals, leading the Balers to a girls team title.
