Santa Catalina softball

The turning point in the Cougars season wasn't a win.
Rather a humbling 15-4 loss to Monterey in a non-league game on April  7.
Santa Catalina was sitting just 4-5 overall at that point. The four-time Mission Trail Athletic League champions looked vulnerable.
"We will be fine,'' insisted Santa Catalina coach Jim Pingree after that loss.
  He was right.
What's transpired since is a nine game winning streak and a fifth straight MTAL title.
The Cougars are three games away from another perfect MTAL season.
Granted, nothing has come easy with four wins being by one run. It never does when the target is on your back.
Yet with three Division I players on the lineup, it has helped compensate for the six freshmen that help make up a roster that features just two seniors.
Juniors Tatumn Satow and Marissa Bruno have torched opposing pitchers at the plate while Vanessa Furman has been a catalyst at the top of the order.
