Monterey-Sacred Heart Prep baseball

Central Coast Section Division II Semifinals
Tuesday's game
No. 4 Sacred Heart Prep, Atherton (19-12) vs. No. 8 Monterey (17-12), 7 p.m. at San Jose Municipal Stadium.
Here is what we know about the Gators.
They have a true ace on the bump in Will Johnston, who shut out Palma over 10 innings in a 1-0 win. The 6-foot-1 hurler didn't allow a hit until the eighth inning.
While Monterey has struggled most of the season at the plate, it erupted for 10 runs in blanking No. 1 seed Hillsdale in five innings on Saturday.
An argument can be made that the Toreadores are playing as well as any team in the section right now, having gone 8-1 in their last nine games.
While both teams had extra inning nail-bitters in their playoff openers, both got the lumber out last Saturday in lopsided wins.
The pitching, though, will be too good on a cool, damp evening for this to be a slug fest.
Gavin Jarvis will need to pitch like he did in Monterey's extra inning win over Pacific Grove and the defense, anchored by shortstop Carter Aldrete and centerfielder Benny Jones, will need to be sharp.
A note of interest. During Monterey's three CCS title runs, it's 6-0 at Municipal Stadium. In all other years dating back to 2002, it's winless.
