CCS track

A return trip to the Central Coast Section track and field finals means a mental edge for a handful of county athletes.
Among them is North County's BreAnn Scally, who is competing on Friday in the triple jump, the 100 hurdles and 300 low hurdles.
Scally appears to be hitting her stride in the 100 hurdles, having clocked 15.55 at last week's trials.  The senior will go into the finals ranked No. 5.
North Salinas' Nicole Hermosillo-Wright is a return finalist in the long jump, that's been on the verge of sailing to new heights, if she could just get on the board on take off.
Teammate Elizabeth Alcala has the experience of having competed in the discus finals last spring. She's added the shot put this year as well.
Edgar Bonilla will look for that mental edge in the 1,600, where the King City distance ace's season best (4:18.18) ranks No. 3. The senior was fourth last year in the 1,600 finals.
The top three in each event advance to the state championships.
Seaside's Paul Koenig, who has set a personal best in the 300 intermediate hurdles in each of the last two meets, clocked the fastest time at last week's CCS trials (39.23)
A sleeper in the meet is Palma's Justin Nobida-Lagrimas in the long jump. But he has got to hit the board to put himself in contention.
A glimpse of the future comes in the girls 1,600 relay, where Salinas' quartet of Veronica Aguilar, Kacie Buck, Taylor Burbank and Brooke Oleson consist of three freshmen and a sophomore. The foursome is ranked No. 5 at 4:00.46.
*Note: A list of all county athletes competing in the CCS finals with their ranks and projections will appear in Friday's blog.
