Notre Dame-Mitty softball

 Normally, I wouldn't make too much out of a non-league game in the heart of the league season in any sport.
 But this is different.
 Notre Dame and Mitty - who meet Friday in San Jose - are arguably the two most successful softball programs in the history of the Central Coast Section.
 Need prove?
 The Spirits have won a record 14 Central Coast Section Division III titles -- including a state record nine straight at one point, while Mitty is next with 12 Division II titles.
 The Monarchs have 53 postseason wins while Notre Dame has 52, trailing only Carlmont's 63. Both the Spirits and Mitty didn't win their first titles until after 1990.
 Ironically, both went into the week with 16-3 overall records and are undefeated in their respective leagues.
 Mitty is also ranked in the Top 50 in the nation.
