North Salinas-Alisal baseball

All of a sudden, today's battle has significant meaning for both teams.
The Vikings have put themselves in a must win situation if they have aspirations of defending their Pacific Division title after two straight losses to Watsonville.
In addition, just one team is a lock to make the postseason out of the Pacific Division.
That being said, three teams from the Pacific Division made the playoffs last year. Right now Alisal sits in the No. 3 spot, two games behind co-leaders North Salinas and Watsonville.
Alisal is having its best season in over two decades, having already surpassed last year's entire win total with 12. It needs two more wins to assure its first winning season since 1995.
But the Trojans -- who have no room for slumps with just 11 players on their roster -- have to find a way to win at home as three of their four league losses have come on their field.
Carlos Vera and Yael Cruz have been clutch at the plate of late for Alisal while Brian Navarro has won his last two starts on the hill -- both the road.
North Salinas will likely turn to Joseph Gutierrez to get them back on track. The junior hurler gave up just one hit in a 1-0 loss to Watsonville last week.
