Snake bitten might not be a strong enough term to describe the Toreadores first half.
Forgot for a moment that Monterey lost three straight games by one run - by identical 2-1 scores.
This is a team that has dropped six games this year by one run -- essential one pitch or one hit away from potentially reversing those setbacks. The Toreadores are just 2-6 in games decided by one run.
Pitching has not been a problem this spring for Monterey as the staff, anchored by Gavin Jarvis, has allowed two runs or less in nine of its 13 games.
The Toreadores problems have been at the plate. They have been blanked three times and held to one run on four other occasions.
Mired in a four-game losing streak, missing has been that clutch hit in late innings. Since scoring 12 runs in two games against Gilroy, Monterey has produced just nine in its last five games.
