If there was such a thing as a first half county Most Valuable Player, there wouldn't be much debate for anyone but Josh Olivarria.
The senior hurler has put Salinas on his shoulders with his arm and bat, leading the team on a current season high seven game winning streak.
Olivarria is 3-1 in four starts for Salinas, including a 15-strikeout effort in his last outing last week in a tournament in Fresno -- compiling a county high 43 strikeouts.
At the plate, Olivarria is blistering the ball with his bat as well, having driven in 19 runs in 16 games. He is among the county leaders in doubles, hits, multi-hit games and runs scored.
After an 0-4 start to the season, the Cowboys are 10-2, with those two losses being by two and one run to defending Gabilan Division champion San Benito.
