Pacific Grove-Santa Cruz boys hoops

CCS Division IV semifinals
Tuesday's game
No. 4 Pacific Grove (19-5) vs. No. 1 Santa Cruz (21-6) at Kaiser Arena, 7:30 p.m.
A concern for the Breakers is the health of 6-foot-5 sophomore foreign exchange student Erol Ersek, who missed the postseason opener with an illness.
His presence on defense is critical for the Mission Trail Athletic League champions against the top-seeded Cardinals.
Pacific Grove was 5-3 overall before Ersek arrived on Jan. 3.
Still, without Ersek the Breakers could have matchup problems trying to slow down 6-3 junior guard Kaijae Yee-Stephens, who is averaging over 21 points a game for Santa Cruz.
Yee-Stephens has had games of 37 and 38 points for the Cardinals, who have won six straight games and are 11-1 in their last 12, including a 65-48 win over Carmel on Saturday.
The Breakers ride into the semifinals with 11 straight wins, holding nine of those opponents under 40 points.
Brad Sendell, an MTAL MVP candidate, has carried the offense for Pacific Grove while 6-5 Josh Wren and 6-4 Chip Wagner have provided points in the paint.
