CCS Division I quarterfinals
Saturday's game
No. 7 Salinas (20-5) vs. No. 2 Piedmont Hills (18-6) at Foothill College, 1 p.m.
Runner-ups in the Mount Hamilton Division to Leland, the Pirates finished strong, winning their last four games.
Last year Piedmont Hills earned the No. 2 seed in Division I and was promptly upset the first time it stepped on the court for the playoffs.
In fact, the Pirates have been the No. 2 seed the last three years, reaching the D1 finals in 2012. They were the top seed in 2011.
Salinas is in the quarterfinals for the fifth time in seven years after holding off Independence 66-64 on Thursday.
Nat Hunsdorfer has been the Cowboys most consistent player all season, providing another double-double in Thursday's win.
Seeing Laron Logwood and Richard Torres warm to the rims as well as Tim Harper providing an offensive infusion off the bench is critical in Salinas extending its season.
