Despite fading down the stretch in the Mission Trail Athletic League with three straight losses, King City can still earn a playoff spot today with a win over CAL champion Pacific Collegiate.
The Mustangs, who ended Soledad's run of supremacy in the MTAL on Feb. 4 with a 2-1 decision, dropped three straight games by one goal after that magical win to fall out of title contention.
Jose Hernandez has carried the offense for King City with 12 goals this year while goalie Andres Gomez has six shutouts in the cage.
Pacific Collegiate was winless outside the CAL this year. A common opponent is Anzar, who King City beat 11-0 while the Pumas swept the league series with 3-2 and 3-1 wins.
