CSUMB baseball

While the Giants have been an even year champion, the Otters hope the odd years work in their favor.
Two years ago CSUMB set a school record for wins with 39 en route to capturing the programs first California Conference Athletic Association baseball title.
Last year was a different tune as CSUMB struggled, winning just 23 games and finishing under .500.
The biggest difference? After going 24-6 at home in 2013, the Otters were just 14-13 last year.
The Otters have some momentum going into today's conference opener against CSU-East Bay, having closed non-conference play with a 3-1 record.
Pitching could be a strength for the Otters with the return of Jeff Owen, an all-District first team selection as a sophomore in 2013.
In addition San Benito High graduate Greg Steinbeck is off to a 2-0 start with a 1.29 earned run average, evolving into the ace of the staff.
Kevin Davidson has stung the ball at the plate of late with two homers and 10 runs batted in while Matt Urakami is hitting a team high .435.
Defensively the Otters have committed just seven errors in eight games.
