Pacific Grove basketball

Erol Ersek didn’t arrive in Pacific Grove until Jan. 2.
The first time he showed up for basketball practice, he worked out with the junior varsity.
"He was dunking in warm-ups,’’ recalled Pacific Grove coach Dan Powers.
The Austria foreign exchange student never played a JV game.
And while it took some time for the 6-foot-5 sophomore to learn the system and build chemistry with his teammates, the end product has Pacific Grove inching closer to a Mission Trail Athletic League title.
Ersek knocked down three 3-point goals in the first quarter in Thursday's 59-34 win over Stevenson, propelling Pacific Grove to its ninth straight win.
All of a sudden, you have to look at Pacific Grove as a potential threat in the Division IV playoffs, particularly if Half Moon Bay, Sacred Heart Prep and Palma all get bumped into the Open Division.
