CCS Division I playoffs
Thursday's game
No. 10 Independence (17-8) at No. 7 Salinas (19-5), 7 p.m.
Four of the Cowboys' five losses came from two teams, neither of which are in the D-I playoffs. Then again Salinas has played just one team in the D-I playoffs, beating Sequoia.
Runner-ups in the Santa Teresa Athletic League, the 76ers are 6-1 in their last seven games, ending Alvarez's season on Tuesday with a 62-49 win.
Jeremy Ishimaru should be on Salinas' radar, as the 5-foot-8 senior is averaging 20.1 points a game for Independence, scoring 28 against Alvarez.
The most consistent player for Salinas this year has been Nat Hunsdorfer, who leads the team in double-doubles.
Salinas needs production from its guard play where Willie Gray and Richard Torres line up on the perimeter.
