The numbers that freshman guard Ambreece Gaskins is putting up this year haven't been seen since -- well since Katie Denny lit up gyms at Stevenson in 2000.
Gaskins came close to matching Denny's school and county record for points in a game when she had 46 last week for the Pirates in a win over Soledad.
Denny, who went on to play four years at Stanford University, dropped in 52 against Carmel on Jan. 15, 2000.
Perhaps what gets your attention about Gaskins is her overall numbers. In addition to the 46 points, she had seven assists and sevens steals.
She's creating points for herself on defense as well as keeping teammates involved. While Gaskins does not have Denny's 6-foot-1 frame, she's quicker and more explosive.
Keep in mind, she's just a freshman.
