You knew Soledad was better than its record indicated.
During an 0-6 start, it suffered losses by five points or less in four of those games.
Since that horrific start, the Aztecs have won three of their last four games.
All of a sudden, they're a team that no one wants to play in the Mission Trail Athletic League.
Soledad has four players averaging seven or more points a game, including sharpshooter Mark Valladarez and Junior Chavez.
Yet, two things have changed Soledad's course of direction.
One is it found a way to win a close game. It was 0-5 overall this year in games decided by five points or less before beating Gonzales by four last week.
And it won a home game, its first of the year.
