Pacific Grove-Carmel boys hoops

As for early season showdowns, this could live up to the hype when the two MTAL powers square off on Wednesday at Carmel in a battle of unbeatens in league.
Home court advantage meant little last year as Pacific Grove and Carmel split its two games, with both winning on the road en route to sharing the league title.
The Breakers, who escaped with an overtime win over King City last Friday, will have to find a way to contain 6-foot-4 Carmel junior John Stivers, who has five straight double-doubles.
The reigning two-time league MVP is averaging just under 17 points and 12 rebounds a game. Last year Stivers had 18 points in the win over the Breakers, but just four in the loss.
With the addition of 6-foot-5 sophomore point guard Erol Ersek from Austria, Pacific Grove could be dynamic on the outside. Ersek also has five blocks in his first two games.
The offense still runs through sophomore guard Bran Sendell, who is averaging over 16 points a game, while post ChipWagner is chipping in with 11 points a night.
