Tom Newton

The high school coaching fraternity lost a good man today when Tom Newton stepped down as the Monterey head football coach.
Citing a desire to spend more time with his family, Newton gave up a job he coveted.
 I believe him.
But the stress of coaching a high profile program takes its tole.
Newton poured his heart into the Toreadores program. He was living the dream of coaching at a school he once played for.
Yet, it was evident that the stress was wearing him down. You didn't need to ask him to see it in his eyes.
Still, coaches in their early 30's shouldn't be turning in their head sets.
One head coach in the county told me parents have no idea how much it takes out of coaches and their families
Newton will resurface again. This break will rejuvenate him. I don't believe the passion is gone. Just the desire to put in the countless hours.
Family first should be his priority.
