State Northern California Division V semifinals
Tuesday's game
No. 3 Notre Dame (31-6) at No. 1 Branson, Ross (38-3), 7 p.m.
This isn't the first time the Spirits are playing for a shot at a state title match, or the first time they have made the trip to Ross to face state power Branson.
Two years ago Notre Dame gave the Bulls a fight before falling in four tight games to the eventual Division V state champions.
In fact, Branson has four state titles and five straight state final appearances.
While the Spirits are 0-4 in state semifinal appearances, they have battled, falling in 2004 to Golden Sierra in five games, and in four games to Menlo in 2000.
Only two programs in Monterey County have ever played for a state title in Salinas in 2009 and King City in 1990.
