1. Salinas: Is playing in its first section title game in 13 years.
2. San Benito: How fitting that the top two teams in this poll are still alive.
3. Palma: A glimpse of next year was on display last week.
4. Monterey: Season over.
5. Alvarez: Knocked out of the semifinals for the second straight year by San Benito.
6. Monte Vista: Playing in its first ever section championship game on Friday.
7. Pacific Grove: Courageous battle with a banged up squad.
8. Carmel: Has got to fix that defense if it wants to take the next step.
9. Christopher: Headed for the Gabilan Division next fall.
10. Soledad: Season over.
On the bubble: Gilroy.

What do you mean about Carmel "taking the next step"? Yes Carmel gives up points in the play-offs. But they score lots of points and with a 9 and 5 record in play-off games since the end of the 2008 season Carmel has played in more play-off games than any other area team...and has a better winning percentage than most. Plus the difference between points scored per game and points allowed per game is by far the best in the area. (And Carmel's points allowed in play-off games isn't even the worst in the area.)
Below you have the team name, below that their play-off record, then below that the average number of points per game they have scored, below that the average number of points per game they have allowed and lastly, the difference between the points scored and points allowed.

Let's look at your "take the next step" comment another way. Looking back from the end of the 2008 season (an arbitrary date marking when Naderson took over the Carmel porgram), Carmel (and Salins) lead area teams with the number of appearances in the play-offs semifinal round. Both those schools have been in the semifinals 5 of the past 6 years.
Carmel is also one behind San Benito, and tied with Aptos for the most finals appearances in the past 6 years. San Benito has gone to the finals 4 times in 6 seasons, while Carmel and Aptos have both been to the finals 3 times.
Further down the list, Monterey has been to the semis 3 times in 6 years (with 1 finals appearance) and PG, Palma, MVC, Seaside and Alvarez have been to the semis twice...and each of those schools except for Alvarez have played in 1 finals game in the past 6 years.
So when you talk about Carmel taking the "next step", I'm not sure what you mean? I'd submit that every team in your rankings needs to do something better in the future if they want to take the "next step" and try to match Carmel's recent play-off run.
