Valley Christian-Palma football

CCS Open Division playoffs
Friday's game
No. 6 Valley Christian (8-2) vs. No. 3 Palma (9-1) at Rabobank Stadium, 7 p.m.
The Chieftains are just 1-4 against Valley Christian since going into the Elite Division. That one win, though, in the semifinals in 2000, catapulted them to their first CCS big boy title.
Valley Christian won its final six games to gather a share of the West Catholic Athletic League title with Serra. One of its losses this fall was to 10-0 Milpitas.
The Warriors -- who have not lost a road game this year -- also have a 21-14 win over St. Francis, a team Palma defeated 21-12 in Week 2.
Kirk Johnson is averaging 8.2 yards each time he runs the ball for Valley Christian while Michael Machado has 14 touchdown passes.
Sophomore tailback Emilio Martinez recorded his eighth 100 plus yard rushing game last week for Palma, giving him 1,392 yards on the season and 22 total touchdowns.
Quarterback Jack Richardson has 18 touchdown passes this year, five to Maquess Cannon. Palma has turned the second quarter into its domain this fall, outscoring teams 147-21.
