Menlo-Atherton-Salinas football

CCS Division I playoffs
Friday's game
No. 8 Menlo-Atherton (3-7) at No. 1 Salinas (6-4), 7 p.m.
Having had a week off from a bye, will there be some rust to shake off for Salinas, who was playing as well as any team in the section prior to the bye week?
I doubt it. The Gabilan Division co-champions have prepared all fall like they were facing playoff teams -- which they did. So why would it be any different this week?
Quarterback Zach McDermott, who spent the off-season moving water pipes in a field, has thrown for nearly 1,600 yards this year for Salinas, while rushing for 588 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Rigo Marquez and Kevin Crosby have combined for 74 catches for nearly 1,000 yards. Still, Salinas wants to establish the run behind Bruce Leighton and that big offensive line.
One of the Bears losses this fall was a 37-14 setback to Monterey. All of their losses are to teams in the postseason, including a 31-21 loss to 10-0 Sacred Heart Prep.
Quarterback Robby Beardsley has thrown for over 1,200 yards and eight touchdowns. While he has rushed for just seven yards, he has five rushing touchdowns.
As a team, Menlo-Atherton has rushed for just under 1,500 yards. The defense has recorded 17 sacks and has recreated 11 turnovers.
