Palma football

Jeff Carnazzo will get criticized for allowing players to flee to their winter sports after Palma fell in the first round of the Open Division playoffs.
It was the right thing to do.
There was nothing to play for in the consolation bracket of the Open Division.
Next year could be a different story. This year it was an exhibition.
Even with all the new faces on the field Friday, Palma held its own in a 28-14 loss to Serra.
Carnazzo said during the week that he was playing this game with one eye on the future.
 The future is promising.
One thing Carnazzo does is encourage athletes to play multiple sports. It didn't make sense to keep them out another week with nothing at stake.

Carnazzo wasn't the only one. Serra's Walsh did the same. All the coaches are doing the same. I can't figure out how CCS passed this. I don't think it makes much sense whether these teams can get a bid to a bowl play-in or not. I don't think it will help at all. Maybe some case in a while. There are plenty of lower division playoffs in other sections and it will take a one or two loss team anyways to get a play-in bid. Will be interesting what CCS does when CIF votes it down. They should just go to the 4 or 5 divisions and keep the WCAL and Palma's and SHP's out of the small school playoffs. There is no reason a Salinas or Hollister shouldn't be in the top division with their enrollments.
