I guess you could say Palma took out its frustrations, from dropping its first game of the season last week to San Benito, out on Alvarez this week.
The 41-6 pasting was the worst loss the Eagles have absorbed in two years.
As a result, Palma has a share of the Gabilan Division title with Salinas -- the program's 29th league title -- and will go into the Open Division.
The Chieftains defense redeemed itself while junior QB Jack Richardson continues to improve each week, tossing four first-half touchdowns in Friday's rout.
Palma will be a factor in the Open Division. There is no clear-cut favorite. A balanced offense and a stingy defense make the Chieftains intriguing.

If Serra wins this Sat. 11/15 afternoon against Bellarmine, Palma will face Valley Christian (which would be the second seeded WCAL team). If Serra loses (Serra goes down to D2 playoff and VC will be top WCAL seed and move to a top 4 open division seed) and Palma will play Bellarmine (who would then be WCAL second seed). Palma will be seeded #4 and play the second seeded WCAL team which will be #5 at Rabobank. All the games will be video streamed on NFHS network as will the seeding meeting and picks. The Serra v Bells game will be streamed on prep2prep.com this afternoon at 1pm.
Serra defeated Bellarmine so VC will move down to 5th seed (Serra claims top WCAL seed with win over VC and share of WCAL title). VC will have the Sr RB Kirk and Jr WR Collin Johnson both U of Texas commits (sons of former Texas star and NFLer Johnnie Johnson). VC has size and is fast and athletic. QB is son of HC. This will be Palma's toughest game all year. VC was early one of the favorites to win the open division. The team that was not on the radar and is a very tough matchup is Milpitas although VC probably would win a game if they face again. RB Johnson is the best RB Palma has faced since current Oregon RB from VC Bryron Marshall who will be an NFLer. VC with K. Johnson is a different team when he is healthy which he wasn't in their loses. Palma should be in this one if they play great defense.
VC beat St.Francis 21-14. Palma also beat St.Francis 21-12. According to the transitive property, Palma is in for 4 quarters of defensive struggle. Carnazzo has always fielded a ridiculously good defense, I think Palma is pretty balanced against both the run and pass. It's gonna all come down to containing those Johnson Boys and their QB Machado. Martinez will be a target for sure... I can't wait to watch the game! It would be nice to see the chiefs make it past the first round of open for once...
