Mt. Madonna-Notre Dame volleyball

CCS Division V finals
Saturday's game
No. 2 Mt. Madonna (14-14) at No. 1 Notre Dame (28-6) at Independence High, San Jose, 12:30 p.m.
Don't be misled by Mt. Madonna's overall record. Like the Spirits, it played a strong schedule and is in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League.
That being said, the Watsonville-based private school limped into the playoffs, dropping five of its last six SCCAL matches before turning the switch on in the postseason.
Junior hitter Sophie Ortiz has provided a charge at the net and is arguably the Hawks' best defensive player.
Chasing its first CCS title since 2004, Notre Dame is playing at a different level the last three weeks, with its only loss coming in a tournament to nationally ranked Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Emily Cunanan and Nikki DeSerpa have taken turns all season hammering opponents at the net with contributions coming from Jennifer Lane and Chase Hagenbuch.
Setter Chanel Enz has run this offense to near perfection of late, relying on a defense anchored in the back row by Julia Scattini.
Depth is also a strength for Notre Dame, which reached the Division V finals two years ago, but was upset in the title game.
