Palma-Monterey football

Friday's game
Palma (7-0) vs. Monterey (7-1) at MPC, 7:30 p.m.
The Chieftains are returning to the site where they won their last CCS championship three years ago in front of 6,000-plus fans at Monterey Peninsula College.
A big crowd is again expected even with rain in the forecast tonight when the two heavyweights get reacquainted.
The Toreadores have held leads in each of the last two games against Palma in the first half, only to have been outscored 55-13 in the second half.
In Monterey's lone loss, it gave up 292 rushing yards to Salinas -- 179 yards on three plays. Palma has arguably the best tailback in the area in Emilio Martinez.
The sophomore has over 1,100 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. The Chieftains offensive line is capable of controlling a game and wearing down defenses.
Monterey rediscovered its ground game last week with Akili Jones rushing for 305 yards. The junior might be the fastest player on the field.

Don’t forget the quarterbacks in this game. Jack Richardson completed 11-of-15 last week for nearly 200 yards for Palma while Carter Aldrete has thrown 13 touchdowns passes, with one pick in 102 attempts for the Toreadores.
Palma's defense, which has been so dominating, gave up more points last week than it had all season. Yet, it forced three turnovers, two of which led to points -- the difference in the outcome.
