Friday's game
Hilmar (1-3) at Pacific Grove (2-0), 7:30 p.m.
Last year the Yellowjackets opened the season with 13 straight wins before falling in a Sac-Joaquin Section divisional title game.
Since then, Hilmar is just 1-4. Yet, don't be misled by the record. Two of its three losses this season have been by a field goal. Meaning they're that close to being 3-1 instead of 1-3.
Quarterback Jonathan O'Brien has thrown for over 600 yards in four games for Hilmar, with his pass attempts having increased in each of the team's first four games.
While O'Brien also leads Hilmar in rushing with 223 yards, he is only averaging 2.9 yards per carry. No one else has more than 48 yards on the ground.
The Breakers, who had a bye last week, showed another wrinkle in their attack two weeks ago, as quarterback Anthony Coppla rushed for over 120 yards.
Coppla and Jason Leach form a dynamic tandem in the backfield. Yet, what Pacific Grove could
find themselves battling is more nine-man fronts.
Keenan Selbicky has been a menace in the middle of that Pacific Grove defense while teammate Ryan Richardson recovered two fumbles in the team's last game.
