Gabilan Division cross country

A first glimpse of what could be in store in five weeks unfolds at North County today with the MBL's Gabilan Division Center Meet.
 While we have seen peeks of the potential at invitationals the last three weeks, this will be the first head-to-head meeting among league rivals.
 Of course, some may treat the event like an extended workout rather than a meet, providing a false impression. And this is not the site of the league finals.
 Obviously, what occurs in September has no barring in November. Still, it's an opportunity to make a statement or grab some confidence.
 While San Benito swept the boys and girls team titles at last year's league finals, Salinas was within seven points in the girls competition. The core of that team is back.
 North County came on strong last fall in the boys division with four of its runners back in the fold this season.
