No rhyme or reason, yet 10-3 is a decent start. Shame on me for going with my heart in one of those losses.
Friday's games
Los Altos vs. Marina at MPC: No creampuffs on the Mariners schedule this season as they face a squad that was 8-2 last year. Pick: Los Altos.
Alvarez at Alisal: The fourth quarter was more Alvarez like after it scored the games last 15 points last week. Pick: Alvarez.
St. Francis vs. Palma at Rabobank: As impressive as Palma was in last week's win over Carmel, St. Francis was equally dominating in beating Oak Grove. Pick: St. Francis.
Monterey at Soquel: The Toreadores need to be careful tonight. These teams are similar in how they control the ball. Pick: Monterey.
Aptos at Seaside: The Mariners only setback to a CCS team in their last 23 games was to Valley Christian in the 2012 Division III title game. Pick: Aptos.
Hanford West at King City: From a confidence factor, this is a big game for the Mustangs, who were knocked off their horse last week. Pick: King City.
Pajaro Valley at Greenfield: Don't expect an aerial assault as both teams combined for eight passes last week. Pick: Greenfield.
Pacific Grove at Monte Vista: The Breakers offense looked awful good last week. The defense looked even better. Pick: Pacific Grove.
Saturday's games
North Salinas at North County: Hearing it doesn't belong in the Gabilan Division has fueled the Vikings fire. Pick: North Salinas.
Salinas at Carmel: The last time these two teams both lost a season opener was in 2000. Injuries are a concern for the Padres. Pick: Salinas.
Monterey Peninsula at Los Medanos: The Lobos have to discover a run game to give that defense a little more rest. Pick: MPC.
Hartnell at Redwoods: Afternoon starts are rare for Hartnell. Michael Turner could have a field day picking a part that defense. Pick: Hartnell.
