Friday's game
Alvarez (2-0) at Menlo (2-0), 7 p.m.
A lot of players are going both ways for Menlo, who suits up just 23 players. Yet, it has outscored its first two opponents 89-8.
Then again the combined record of those two teams is 0-4. On the flip side, the two teams the Eagles have defeated are a combined 0-3.
The Knights like to wing it as quarterback Austin D'ambra has thrown for nearly 500 yards and six touchdowns, three going to Jack Marren.
A balanced attack includes sophomore tailback Charlie Ferguson, who has rushed for just under 200 yards, averaging 9.1 yards a touch.
Alvarez, who was undefeated on the road last year, has won its last 12 regular season games, having score 64 points in its last five quarters.
Anchored by hard-hitting linebacker Rene Chavez and ball hawking safety Edric Gamble, the Eagles defense has allowed just one touchdown.
