Football Tour VIII

Gonzales (0-7, 0-10)
It's been 11 years since Gonzales reached the postseason and produced a winning season. During that span, it is 12-85-2.
Stuck in a county-high 16-game losing streak, the Spartans have given up 40 or more points in 16 straight games.
The roster numbers are thin again this year, meaning several players will have to go both ways.
Yet, the Spartans have realistic hopes. No one is talking title. But a core of returning players have given the program a shot in the arm, starting with quarterback Chrystian Harrigan.
Harrigan, who had a change of heart and came out this year, rushed for nearly 1,000 yards in just six games last fall.
Gonzales has some parts to play with, starting with receiver Brian Rosas, who caught 33 passes for nearly 600 yards and five touchdowns last year.
One of those talented juniors is running back/linebacker Ryan Avila, who was among the Spartans' team leaders in tackles last year. And senior Nate Ramirez is an imposing target as a tight end.
"It's more about building team chemistry,'' Ramirez said. "More than anything, it's building that team camaraderie and coming together. All we are focused on is that first win."
Gonzales should be more entertaining offensively, creating hope that a different streak will begin a new era this fall.
