Impressions of Carmel Passing Tournament

Quarterback Connor Marden didn't do anything that surprised me on Saturday. Oh, he may have read his reads better. But this is a player that has thrown for over 5,000 yards in the last two years.
The point I'm making is he's good.
Who did catch my eye was Carmel receiver William Kehoe, who has clearly spent time in the weight room and appears a little quicker on the outside.
Apparently spending the summer moving pipe in Greenfield has strengthened Salinas quarterback Zach McDermott, who showed nice poise on his deep routes.
Salinas will need an efficient passing attack to compete in its first four games -- two of which are against reigning CCS divisional champions.
How can you not be impressed with King City receiver Dominic Rose. A 6-foot-3 frame with good hands and deceptive speed, Rose can go up in traffic and haul in passes.
I liked the attitude of Gonzales, particularly junior linebacker Ryan Avila. There is a different vibe in south county.
If you're looking for a name to watch from Marina, how about head coach Vernon Calhoun? If you had seen what this program looked like three years ago, you'd understand.
No one has done a better job in building a program from the ground up, that was on the distinction of being shut down before he took over.
Of the dozen teams taking part in the Carmel Passing Tournament, one was San Luis Obispo, whose head coach is former Carmel quarterback Pat Johnston. His assistant is his brother Ken Johnston.
