Home matches have been rare for county teams in the playoffs for boys volleyball.
Seaside received a home match against St. Ignatius of San Francisco on Tuesday in the Division II playoffs.
Guess what?
It can't play on its home court because a middle school concert is set on Tuesday.
But you can squelch any talk of the higher seeded Spartans having to go north instead to face the Vikings.
Monterey has offered its gym to Seaside.
Granted, they are a part of the same school district. But that's a class move on Monterey's part.
Now the Spartans (20-11), anchored by Deshawn Irving and Colby Ostberg, have to find a way to defuse the power of St. Ignatius, which plays in the rugged West Catholic Athletic League.
The Vikings (19-16) won the CCS Division II title in 2011 and reached the quarterfinals last season before falling to top seed Mt. Madonna.
Alisal is making its first-ever postseason appearance in volleyball, where it will host Leland in the Division I playoffs at 7 p.m.
The Trojans (16-6) broke the single season school record for wins behind the power of Edgar Huerta.
Monterey is making its 10th straight playoff appearance, where it will visit Sacred Heart Cathedral in the Division II playoffs.
The Toreadores are just 2-9 in postseason play and are winless against WCAL opponents. But one of those playoff wins occurred on the road.
MBL champion Palma has a bye and won't play until Thursday.
