The future of track rests comfortably in the hands of two blistering freshmen in the Mission Trail Athletic.
Don't blink or you may miss catching a glimpse of Santa Catalina's Mikayla Revera and Pacific Grove's Zack Miller.
The pair will be the favorites to win multiple events on Friday at the MTAL finals at Pacific Grove.
Revera is the class of the MTAL in the 200 and 400. The freshman is ranked No. 3 in the Central Coast Section in the 400 at 56.30 -- the third fastest time ever run in Monterey County.
Santa Catalina, who captured the programs first ever team title last spring, has the No. 1 or No. 2 mark in 10 of the 16 events with Lizzy Tardieu the favorite in the 800 and 1,600.
Last spring Tardieu was the MTAL 400 meter champion.
Miller, who cruised at the MTAL trials last Friday, has the top overall season marks in both the 100 (11.23) and 200 (22.76). He is also among the favorites in the long jump.
Yet, it may take a little magic for the Breakers to dethrone defending team champion King City.
Behind distance ace Walter Bonilla, the Mustangs are going to score heavily in the distance events, as much as 66 points. They are also projected to produce as much as 66 points in the field events.
Both areas are not strengths for Pacific Grove.
Bonilla, the MTAL cross country champion last fall, will attempt to triple, where he has the top marks in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.
