San Benito-Notre Dame softball

I can't help but wonder if Notre Dame was looking ahead to this anticipated showdown today with the Balers in being upset last week by Salinas.
No doubt, the Spirit setback took a little away from what was going to be a showdown for first place in the Gabilan Division with the unbeaten Balers.
 Nevertheless, these are the reigning CCS champions from Division I and Division III locking horns in what could be perceived as a poststseason tune-up.
 An argument can be made that these are the two best softball programs in the CCS along with Mitty over the last 18 years, as Notre Dame and San Benito have won a combined 23 section titles.
 Owners of eight straight Division I titles, the Balers have rode the bats of  Callee Heen and Suzy Brookshire, who have both ripped five homers this spring.
 Aireal Sakasagawa is having an MVP type season for Notre Dame with 45 hits in 23 games, having driven in a team high 23 runs.
