No one is chasing a title today.
That distinction already belongs to San Benito.
What Salinas and Monterey are battling for is second place in the Gabilan Division.
Why is that significant?
Because the second place finisher in the Gabilan Division will likely earn a first round home playoff game in their respective divisions.
Both teams have played better in the second half of the season with the Toreadores having gone 6-2 in their last eight games while Salinas is 5-3.
The only setbacks in league play that both teams have suffered over the last three weeks have come from San Benito.
Salinas beat Monterey twice earlier this year by 5-4 and 4-3 scores.
The Cowboys have gone away from the pitching by committee approach in their last two games. Monterey will likely turn to Romey Miramontes.
