Josh Pompan's quest for a Central Coast Section singles tennis title begins today at the league finals at Salinas High and Chamisal Tennis Club.
The York senior will go into the tournament the heavy favorite to win his first league singles title, with the finals slated for Wednesday at Chamisal.
Last year Pompan finished second to Stevenson grad and current Vanderbilt University freshman Mason Vierra.
Pompan did come back in the CCS tournament to beat Vierra, the defending section champion, before falling in the finals to the top seed.
Pompan has not lost a league match this year.
