Barring a change of heart, two of the best players in the Mission Trail Athletic League at the plate and on the mound will dual today in Pacific Grove's Chris Clements and the Aztecs Daniel Farfan.
Oh, and first place will be on the line in the MTAL between the reigning two-time Central Coast Section Division III champion Breakers and the 12-0 Aztecs.
While the teams will meet two more times, including on Wednesday in Soledad, this is the first mid-term for both teams.
Soledad is the highest scoring team in the county behind Joseph Ramirez, Nathaniel Villarreal, Jared Rivera and Farfan, having produced 123 runs this spring.
Pitching has carried the Breakers in the early part of the season with Clements -- bound for UC Santa Barbara -- coming off a 13-strikeout effort against Carmel.
Clements has also provided a big bat in the lineup along with Chris Fife, Anthony Coppla and James Donlon.
Pitching will dictate the tempo as runs will likely be manufactured.
