How do you bounce back from a loss to section and state power San Benito?
Well, if you are North Salinas, you watch pitcher Shayla Castaneda fire a perfect game in beating Stevenson, then proceed to knock off nemesis Salinas behind slugger Alyssa Salazar.
The Vikings have teetered on the brink of climbing into the upper echelon of the elite teams in the Monterey Bay League the last two years.
Beating Salinas was a start. Now North Salinas will look to snap a four-game losing streak to Notre Dame today.
The Spirits, who received a Top 25 ranking in the state two weeks ago, have suffered just two setbacks in 17 games -- one coming from San Benito.
Notre Dame did bounce back and win the Steinbeck Classic last weekend, relying on the bats of Sarah Muzik, Lauren Pullara and Marisa Given.
The Spirits will be the best hitting team Castaneda faces this year. There are no simple outs in the Notre Dame batting order.
