The Palma senior vaulted himself into prestigious company with his school record leap of 23-6 1/2 in the long jump.
Pacheco's mark is the eighth best jump in Monterey County history and the longest leap since Reggie Topps of North County soared 23-9 3/4 in 2007.
The mark is also the 55th best jump in Central Coast Section history.
Pacheco, whose record leap came on a cool and damp evening at Stanford University, was a seven inch improvement.
When the weather warms up, so will his speed. While he hit the board, Pacheco was reaching rather than planting on take off.
In other words, there's room for improvement.
Earlier this year, Pacheco was second in the state indoor long jump finals.
Here is a list of the top 10 marks of all time in Monterey County.
No. 1 John Johnson (Pacific Grove) 25-4 3/4 -- 1965

Fred Nelson's mark was from 1953 (not 1958).
