This meet intrigues me.
North Salinas is deeper this year in numerous events in both the boys and girls, especially in the boys weight events where Mario Gonzales has already tossed the shot 49-8.
Yet, North County has that tradition -- one that runs 35 years deep. The Condors are an old-school program that still trains and hosts meets on a dirt track.
That's a mental edge when you are used to training on all-weather tracks -- as 12 of the 16 county schools do now.
Times mean little today. Placement is critical. And in a league that's more balanced this year, each dual meet has significant meaning.
